AI Models
WriterFlow supports Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), allowing you to connect your own AI service accounts to access a range of AI models. Each service provides access to different models — for example, OpenRouter aggregates models from multiple providers, while Google AI Studio gives you access exclusively to Google’s model lineup.
The following services are currently supported:
- OpenRouter — Access a wide range of models from multiple AI providers through a single connection.
- Google AI Studio — Connect to Google’s suite of AI models.
- OpenAI — Use OpenAI’s models directly.
- Anthropic — Connect to Anthropic’s Claude models.
- xAI — Access xAI’s Grok models.
- Mistral AI — Use Mistral’s family of open and commercial models.
- DeepSeek — Access DeepSeek’s models.
- Together AI — Run a broad selection of open-source models via Together’s infrastructure.
Connecting to AI services
Section titled “Connecting to AI services”While WriterFlow supports a range of AI services, this documentation covers the connection process for a select few. For the remaining services, the steps are generally similar — you will either authorize via OAuth or paste in an API key retrieved from the provider’s dashboard.
Connecting to OpenRouter
Section titled “Connecting to OpenRouter”Follow these steps to securely connect your OpenRouter account to WriterFlow via OAuth:
-
Click on your user avatar (profile icon) in the application interface. Then from the dropdown menu, select
"API Key". -
In the new settings view, you will see a section prompting you to connect to OpenRouter. Click the
"Connect to OpenRouter"button. This will redirect you to the OpenRouter website. -
On the OpenRouter page, you will be asked to authorize WriterFlow to connect to your account using the secure OAuth standard. Confirm the connection.
-
If the connection is successful, you will be automatically returned to WriterFlow, where you can now proceed to select and start using AI models of your choice.
Connecting to Google AI Studio
Section titled “Connecting to Google AI Studio”To use Google’s AI models in WriterFlow, you will need to generate an API key from Google AI Studio and add it manually to your settings.
Step 1: Generate an API Key in Google AI Studio
- Go to Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- In the left sidebar, click “Get API Key”.
- Click the “Create API Key” button. Google will generate a new API key for you.
- Copy the key and store it somewhere safe — you will not be able to view it again after leaving the page.
Step 2: Add the API Key to WriterFlow
- Click on your user avatar (profile icon) in the application interface. Then from the dropdown menu, select
"API Key". - In the settings view, locate the Google AI Studio section and paste your API key into the provided field.
- Click “Save” to confirm. Once connected, you can proceed to select and start using Google’s AI models.
Adding AI Models
Section titled “Adding AI Models”Once your OpenRouter or Google Studio account is successfully connected, you will be automatically returned to the API Key settings page, where you will see a confirmation message: “Connected to OpenRouter”.
-
Below the confirmation message, locate the “Model Configuration” box.
-
Click the
"+ Add Model"button within the Model Configuration box. A select box will appear. You can find your desired AI model either by typing its name into the input box to search, or by clicking the dropdown menu and selecting the model of your choice from the list. -
Once you have selected the AI model, click the
"Save Settings"button. -
Your newly chosen model will now appear as an option within the main WriterFlow editor, ready for use.
You can repeat the steps above to add and configure as many different models as you like from the OpenRouter marketplace.
