Settings

The Settings dialog gives you access to the app’s main customization options. Fine-tune your experience and configure WriterFlow to work the way you prefer. The Settings Modal is organized into four main tabs:

  1. Basic Info: Core project details and AI writing style preferences.
  2. Page: Typography and page layout configurations.
  3. Display: Visual theme properties for the editor environment.
  4. Prompts: Customizable system instructions for AI actions.

This section manages the project’s metadata and the core instructions that guide the AI’s content generation.

  • Title: The name of the project.
  • Genre: The literary genre (e.g., Sci-Fi, Thriller, Romance).
  • Plot: A high-level summary or outline of the story.
    • Send to AI as reference context: A toggle that, when enabled, includes the plot summary in the AI’s context window to help it understand the broader narrative.
  • Double Pass AI: When enabled, the AI uses a two-step generation process.
    1. It first generates the raw content.
    2. It then runs a second pass specifically to enforce your selected writing style, Point of View (POV), and tense constraints.
  • Writing Style: A dropdown to select a predefined author style (e.g., Stephen King, Jane Austen) or “Custom”.
    • If a specific author is selected, the AI will heavily mimic their prose rhythm, vocabulary, and tone.
    • Custom Style Reference: If “Custom” is selected, you can manually type a description of the desired tone and style.

(These fields only appear if the project is a Novel)

  • Point of View (POV): Enforces the narrative perspective (First Person, Second Person, Third Person).
  • Tense: Enforces the grammatical tense of the narrative (Past Tense, Present Tense).

This section controls the page-level formatting and typography.

  • Default page size: Allows selection between standard page dimensions:
    • US Letter
    • A4
  • Document Font: Sets the primary font family for the main manuscript (Novel/Screenplay).
  • Notes Font: Sets the font family for the supplemental notes and research documents.

This section controls the general appearance of the editor interface.

  • Theme: Allows toggling between different visual schemes:
    • Light
    • Dark
    • Sepia

This section gives users granular control over the base system prompts the AI uses when executing specific inline actions (like highlighting text and selecting an action from the floating menu).

Users can modify the underlying system instructions for the following actions:

  • Rewrite (Base): Modifies the standard rewrite behavior.
  • Rewrite (Custom): Modifies how custom rewrite instructions are applied.
  • Merge: Modifies how the AI blends selected text with its surrounding context.
  • Expand: Modifies the instructions for lengthening text.
  • Shorten: Modifies the instructions for condensing text.
  • Continue (Base): Modifies the standard narrative continuation.
  • Continue (Custom): Modifies how custom continuation instructions are handled.
  • Question (Ask): Modifies the base persona the AI adopts when answering general questions or providing suggestions.
