Project Structure & Creation
WriterFlow offers two flexible ways to structure your projects:
- Standalone Projects: Ideal for one-off novels, short films, or individual works.
- Project Folders: The essential tool for managing complex, multi-part works.
Creating Folder
Click the folder icon on the left side of the center panel to create a new folder. A dialog box will appear where you can enter a name for the folder. Once created, open the folder to add files directly, or move existing files into it by dragging them or using right-click cut/copy options from the root directory.
Creating a Project
Section titled “Creating a Project”Choosing a Template
Section titled “Choosing a Template”To begin, you must choose the structural format that best suits your needs. WriterFlow offers several specialized templates designed to streamline your workflow.
Choose from three unique templates, each tailored to a specific style of writing:
- Document: Perfect for short-form writing such as articles, essays, blog posts, or short stories. Ideal for works that span just a few pages.
- Novel: Designed for long-form fiction, this template gives you the structure and flexibility to write complete novels or serialized stories.
- Screenplay: Built for screenwriters, this template uses industry-standard formatting to help you create scripts for film, television, or web series.
Once you have reviewed the available templates and decided on the format you would like to use, follow these steps to initiate your project:
- Click the
+ Create Projectbutton, located in the top-left corner of the Project Management screen. - A dialog box will appear, prompting you to enter the project details:
- Title: Enter the primary name of your project (e.g., Shadows of Veridia: Book One).
- Project Type: Select the template you wish to use, such as Document, Novel, or Screenplay.
- After entering your details, click the
Createbutton. The project will be generated, and you will be automatically redirected to the Editor to begin writing.
Importing a Project
Section titled “Importing a Project”You can import an existing project by uploading a file directly into the app. Simply click the Upload button, select your file, and WriterFlow will automatically detect the file type and determine the appropriate project type for you.
Each project type supports a specific set of file formats:
- Document: Rich Text Format (.rtf), Adobe PDF (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), MS Word (.docx)
- Novel: Rich Text Format (.rtf), Adobe PDF (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), MS Word (.docx)
- Screenplay: Rich Text Format (.rtf), Adobe PDF (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), Fade In (.fadein), Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain (.fountain)
Once your file has been uploaded, a dialog box will appear pre-populated with project details extracted from the file — such as the title and project type. Review these details, make any changes you need, and click the Create button to finalize the import. WriterFlow will then convert your file into a fully structured project, ready for editing.
